Special K-Mart

I was in a K-Mart in Longview, Texas on Tuesday, when I saw a sight I had to snap a quick shot of for posterity. My trip raised a few questions.

1) What am I doing in a K-Mart, for God's sake? What up, Kerr? Am I shopping in the mid-1980's?

This K-Mart had roughly eight employees, and four customers. It was like Night of the Comet in there. It's the perfect store for shoplifters to hone their craft.

2) Is this the earliest (September 26) that anyone's ever tried to sell me a Christmas tree? Seriously. I understand advertising, and I get lead time, but three freakin' months is an awfully long time to expect me to sit around the house looking at a crappy, pre-lit K-Mart Christmas tree.

See, this is why I get so cranky around the holidays. By the time we finally get to the weeks before Christmas, I've had the trappings of Christmas hanging out of my Ho-Ho-Asshole for three entire months.

I can only assume I missed their Fourth of July sale on Halloween Costumes. I'll sure remember to come back in December to buy my Valentines Day candy, though.

See, Christmas is my favorite time of the year, so I don't mind the early stuff. And it's especially special to me this year because our first child is due January 6. Maybe he'll come on Christmas. That would be sweet.

But that K-Mart sounded downright creepy.

I thought K-Mart was just an urban legend...

I didn't know Kmart was still in Texas . . .

I thought Martha and company left the state altogether.

Reid, Reid, Reid...my naive little buddy. You need to make a quick turn around Hobby Lobby as early as June. You can find Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations, along with football-shaped chip bowls and tiny bales of hay. But you'll have to decide if you want regular ol' Christmas lights, snowman heads, little Santas, or glow-in-the-dark baby Jesuses. Happy Holidays, Mudduh Fudduh.

We recently had an ad on TV advertising Christmas trees and saying, "Be the first to get your Christmas tree." How many people ran right down & bought trees? Certainly not me! I, too am sick of Christmas stuff in the stores this time of year!

I find life is much easer if you just leave your tree up all year.

Same for the lights on the house.

Otherwise you ruin two holidays -- Thanksgiving when you put all that crap up and Easter -- when you have to take it all down.

Christine, good luck with the young 'un. I hope he comes after the New Year, so he'll have another holiday for presents.

K-Marts do exist in Texas, but I have no idea why. Like I said, there were no customers in this place at all. It might have been a front for a CIA operation.

Ang, I'll do my best to stock up. Of course, I'm more of a Big Lots guy, where it's always cheap and your purchases are only limited by the size of your vehicle.

And Trav, after a certain time, you have to just go ahead and leave the lights up.
